Travel Tips In
Vietnam
General
Information
Learn more about traveling with Chôm Chôm and the details of how we create personalized,
unforgettable adventures.
What is the best time to visit
Vietnam?
Vietnam offers something year-round, with the best times to visit typically being
between October and April.
How is Chôm Chôm different from
other travel agencies?
We specialize in creating bespoke, off-the-beaten-path journeys that connect you to
the true spirit of Vietnam, with a focus on
sustainability and local community support.
How do I start planning my
trip?
Simply head to our ‘Build Your Own Trip’ page, fill out the inquiry form, or
contact us directly for personalized
assistance.
What documents do I need?
Valid passports minimum of 6 months before the expiration date.
For the most updated visa regulations for your country of origin, please refer
to the official Vietnamese government website:
https://evisa.gov.vn/
Please go to the official E-visa website evisa.gov.vn to check the latest exemption countries from electronic visa.
TIP: Make sure there are no errors in spelling all names or birthdays when
completing visa application.
What is the cost of a
trip?
The cost varies depending on the number of persons, activities, accommodation,
transportation and the duration of the trips.
This applies to both day tours and longer trips.
For this reason, we create custom quotes for each request.
What is the minimum amount of
days per trip?
You’ll find many agencies ask for a 7-day trip minimum. That’s not us. We want to make
sure that everyone who comes to travel with
us has a good time and great opportunities to explore Vietnam. At Chôm Chôm, it doesn't
matter if you travel with us for half a
day or 1 month, we will make sure the adventure is best tailored to your needs.
What vaccines do I need to travel
into Vietnam?
No vaccinations are mandatory, but some are recommended.
Make sure you are up to date with your usual vaccinations and those required for the
area you will be visiting!
It is recommended to be up-to-date with diphtheria-tetanus-polio (DTP) and
measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccinations.
Vaccination against tuberculosis (BCG) is also recommended, especially for
longer stays.
Depending on local travel conditions, vaccinations against typhoid fever and
viral hepatitis A and B are recommended.
For trips to isolated rural areas in Vietnam:
Vaccination against rabies (preventive vaccination does not dispense with
curative treatment, which should be started as soon
as possible in the event of proven or suspected exposure) and
Japanese encephalitis are strongly recommended.
Do I need insurance to travel to
Vietnam?
Yes. The Vietnamese government requires all travellers booking with a local
travel agency to have valid travel health
insurance. This does not need to include trip cancellation coverage - just
health-related expenses.
There is not specific coverage requirements, so choose the provider and policy
that best suits your needs
If you're paying with a credit card, check with your provider, as many credit
cards include some level of travel insurance.
As part of our standard booking confirmation process, we’ll ask you to provide
proof of required health insurance. It needs to
cover the full duration of your Vietnam travel dates.

Travel & Itinerary
Planning
Everything you need to know about how we plan your trip - from crafting bespoke itineraries to
curating your short escapes tailored to
your interests and travel style.
Can you book my international
flight to Vietnam?
No, that’s something you’ll do for yourself before arriving. We’re here to craft the
rest of your journey! Our team specializes in personalized itinerary planning that
includes organizing and booking accommodations, domestic flights within Vietnam,
general transport, curated activities, and immersive experiences.
Can you book flights for me
within Vietnam?
Yes, we will book domestic flights for your trip with us.
Because we specialise in itinerary planning, we can only organize flights for people
who are travelling with a Chôm Chôm Travel itinerary.
Can I book just a day tour to the
Mekong Delta?
We believe meaningful travel takes time. That’s why our Mekong adventures start from 2
days minimum—allowing you to fully experience the region’s cultural heritage, culinary
diversity, and way of life.
A 4-hour visit (with 4 hours in the car too) can’t compare to an overnight adventure
with locals, hidden waterways, and home-cooked meals.
How far in advance should I start
planning my trip with Chôm Chôm Travel?
While we are flexible and happy to accommodate last-minute booking requests for
longer trips (within 20 days of departure), we recommend reaching out to us well
in advance.
This allows ample time for thorough planning, securing the best availability
with our local experts, and ensuring top-quality accommodations—especially for
longer or more complex trips.
Day tours and Mini Escapes require less lead time. We ask for 3 days notice but
will do our best to accommodate your timings.
A good rule of thumb: the further advance you book, the better!
Is there a time of the year I
should avoid traveling in Vietnam?
We don't recommend traveling during the national holidays, or Tet ( the Lunar
new year).
Tet dates change yearly; for instance, 2026 is 16 to 20 February but in 2025 it
was 28 January to 2 February! Check dates yearly.
Other notable national holidays are 2 & 3 September, and 30 April & 1 May. These
dates are very popular for domestic travel so tend to be very busy and have
higher rates.
Travel Tips In
Vietnam
Get ready for your adventure with these tips for traveling through Vietnam.
What should I pack for my
trip?
Pack light, comfortable clothing and shoes for walking. Don’t forget a rain jacket,
sunscreen, and a camera to capture the beauty around you. An light overshirt is
useful to cover up your shoulders and arms on sunny days.
Do I need a visa for
Vietnam?
Most travelers will need a visa. You can obtain one on arrival or apply online,
depending on your nationality. Check with your local embassy for the most up-to-date
requirements. Our biggest tip: ensure that all names are included and spelled
correctly. Also double check you've inputted birthdays correctly! This is something
that could and can hold up the visa process.
Is Vietnam a safe place to
travel?
Absolutely. Vietnam is generally very safe for tourists. As with any destination, be
mindful of your belongings and respectful of local customs. Our team will provide you
with all the necessary travel safety information and happy to answer any questions you
have
What is the Tipping culture in
Vietnam?
Tipping in Vietnam is not traditionally expected, but it is increasingly
appreciated, especially in the tourism and service industries.
Vietnam is a different home. Know the local customs and do's and don'ts
beforehand. In some regions, locals may not be used to foreigners, but they will
always be welcoming and curious! Smile is always the best passport!
Any other tips for traveling in
Vietnam?
Be expected to remove shoes before entering homes or certain sites.
Modest dressing is required at certain sites.
Even though Vietnam can get very hot, you will see many people are covered from
head to toe - this is not a fashion choice. This is done to protect skin from
the harsh sun. We recommend a light overshirt. Sunburns are not fun for anyone.
Don’t let Rainy Season deter you - there’s still a great experience to be had.
Rain Showers don’t typically last all day.
We believe in adventure because it transcends scale, from grand treks to simple discoveries.
It fuels the soul with the thrill of the
unknown, unlocking courage and curiosity.
